Development of our artists idea
At the beginning of our creation of our artists character, we came up with the idea of not showing her face and not showing the audience who she really is, we got this influence from our last year AS level as we didn't show our villains face from our thriller and believed our music video could be successful filmed on a go-pro and not showing her face. We gained influence from artists such as daft punk who wear masks when performing, in order to not sell themselves on their personal looks but their raw talent in their singing.
However, this idea began to develop and change as our idea changed from an additional party theme, transforming into a music video about the suffering of depression from alcohol and how it can effect young teens. We changed the idea multiple times as well as coming up with a new person playing the role switching from a boy called Jack Bergman too a girl named Lucy Johnson. Lucy was far better equipped for the role as we felt that a girl would represent a far more expressive character and play the emotional side of a person suffering from alcohol depression.
Lucy idea transformed into a young rebellious girl who gained publicity and following through her mischievous personality and the use of illegal spray painting as well as running away from a police car. This attracts teenagers as a target audience who gain support from her rebellious acts and can relate to this.
We gained influence from artists and a music video from Jenny Hyval as we used similarities to our idea and what we wanted to create. Jenny Hval is shown to be wondering around her house with dark lighting. This can connote depressing and loneliness as she struggles to find anyone. Her actions link in with the words of her song as she is stating how she wants ‘somebody to feel me [her]’. We linked our music video to this as we used the lyrics of the music video to analyse and express how our artist was really feeling. That wasn't the only influence from Jenny Hyval as she is also seen smoking to cure her depression. In our video we also want to show our actress smoking and drinking to show how she cannot cope without recreational drugs and needs them to function throughout the day.

In addition to this we also gained influence from Snakehips music video Firstly, the story line is based around a girl who is having domestic problems. In their music videos her problems are caused due to her relationship problems but the lyrics connote that it is in fact her fault. This relates to our music video as the storyline signifies the fact that our actress is having serious problems and doesn't know how to deal with it, therefore contemplating suicide.
Overall we gained influence from both these different music videos in producing ours about a rebellious young girl who suffers greatly from depression and suffers with addiction. This blog shows how our idea and artist idea has developed over time and we came up with new and improved ideas, in order to create a more successful narrative and type of music video.
