What is a thriller ?

Definition:

A film with an exciting plot, typically involving crime, espionage and death. There is always enigma to be resolved that will change the equilibrium. A common feature of a film will be a death, kidnapping or an assault that will lead to a chase involving the heroes and villians. Binary opposition is essential in this process as it enables the audience to determine whose side they should be on. Another common convention used in a thriller is the anti-hero a character a character that is flawed and put in a position that they don't necessarily want to be in, but ultimately they save the day. Watching a thriller generally involves willing suspension of disbelief this means we know the idea is ridiculous but we buy into it for the duration of the film.

Different types of thrillers :

Psychological💊-a suspenseful thriller in which the conflict between the characters is mental and emotional rather than physical—until an often violent resolution.

For example: trance, seven, shutter island 

Sci-fi👽- Are set in the real world or something recognisably similar to it where the plot occurs in the present. Science or medicine is usually important in a sci-fi thriller and normally technology is swell but not crucial. The film is usually differentiates from non fiction and fiction
For Example: alien, 2001, children of men, terminator

Action💣 -a story that often features a race against the clock, lots of violence, and an obvious antagonist.

For example: Bourne, speed, source code, die hard, hurt locker, hanna

Crime🔫-a story focused on the commission of a crime, often from the point of view of the criminals

For example: Sherlock Holmes, usual suspects, the godfather, blow 

Police🚨- a crime thriller that follows the police as they work their way through a case.

For example: heat, die hard , training day  

Political📖- a thriller in which the hero must ensure the stability of the government that employs him.
For Example: White house down , x files, The interpreter 

Conspiracy🔮:a thriller in which the hero battles a large, powerful group whose true extent only he recognises.
For Example: JFK, The Conspiracy, The Skulls 

Horror🎃 - a story—generally featuring some monstrous villain in which fear and violence play a major part, complete with graphic descriptions.

For Example: devil, scream, final destination 

Supernatural thriller👾- a thriller in which the hero, the antagonist, or both have supernatural powers.
For Example: paranormal activity, exorcist, sinister
