THE CRYPT

Section 1
It is a cold winter day, mid January. The silence is deafening. Diegetic
Dogs barking along side police sirens in the background. There is a wide shot
of the basement door creaks open which pans onto the villain’s foot.
As he walks into the basement the camera pans up his body stopping at
the neck.
Caroline
*Screaming*
As the Villain continues walking through the basement the camera pans
out to a medium close up. The villain scans the room for a short period of time.
The villain will pull out a cigarette, lights it slowly with a zippo lighter
adding to the tension in the dark lighting. After a few puffs he slowly places
it in his see through box with numerous butts in. Non-Diegetic music begins which
adds tension and a sinister feel to the sequence.
Section 2
Villain walks around the room with a calm & collective attitude in
a positive jolly mood. As he takes a seat slowly stretching/ clicking his knuckles,
singing ‘Sweet Caroline' ready to kill. Then he unravels his torture kit
contemplating what weapon to use first. The villain will sharpen his weapons in
a sly fashion and then pick up one. Then he will get up in a slow way acting
very harmonious with the death prop in his hand and will slowly start to click,
hum and sing to ‘Sweet Caroline’ in a villainous way.
Section 3
Furthermore, as the villain is clicking/
acting very suave we see a long shot over the villain’s shoulder with Caroline
tied to the chair. As the camera tracks the villain approach Caroline
Villain
What’s a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?
The camera will then switch to her point
of view and the non-diegetic music picks up with diegetic deep breathing as she
trembles with fear. Again, the camera cuts to a close up of the girl who looks
like she’s been down there for weeks. The villain interrogating the girl while pulling
her hair, grabbing her cheeks but still presenting an extremely calm façade .
The girl will be diegetically breathing heavily in a panic fashion with no hope
and the end is inevitable.
Section 4
Lastly, after the villain interrogates
Caroline he will slowly but sharply take out a knife out of his back pocket
shown in a wide shot where the which will be used as his death weapon. As the
girl screams with absolute terror the camera pans across to her feet as the
camera slowly tilts up to her face. The villain will slowly take a knife to her
neck as the camera pans to the wall and the splat of blood paints the wall
slowly slithers down the wall. Ending the opening sequence with a pan across
the villains feet as it tilts up to the back of his head and the long shot
shows him cleaning his weapons demonstrating he’s going to strike again.
We chose to write a script on everything that was going to happen throughout the opening sequence in order to help us visualise our film in a better way. The script not only allowed us to know what was happening every single bit of the film but also how we could film off it and film what the script had written down. Furthermore, the script helped our group and I picture what was going to happen and as result we changed some things around that didn't fit in the thriller genre and think of new ideas.
